The name is derived from its yellow coloring. “Citro” is a French word for lemon. They come in a light yellow to dark yellow and can have an amber or golden-brown coloring. Iron is what actually causes the yellow color. They are a member of the quartz family and sometimes are confused with yellow topaz. When looking to buy a citrine the key is to a look for a rich yellow color.

Citrines have been found in Madagascar, Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Russia, Burma, and Scotland. It has even been found in North Carolina.
