The birthstone for September is sapphire.
In the 1800’s
it was recognized that sapphire and ruby are both gemstones from
the corundum family of minerals. Today corundums of gemstone
quality of all colors except red are called sapphire. Sapphires
come in various colors, such as green and yellow. A colorless
sapphire is called leuko-sapphire which is Greek for white.
The most desired color is called a cornflower-blue and is available
in many shades. If a sapphire is too dark or too light then it
will be less valuable. Look for a stone that is vibrant in color
and appeals to you.
At Americus Diamond we have sapphires mounted in earrings, pendants,
and rings. If you have a special someone with a birthday in September
visit our showroom and let us help you find the perfect gift.
