 Make
pearls the last thing you put on and the first thing you take
off.
- Store pearls in a soft pouch, separate from your other jewelry,
as diamonds and other gemstones may scratch them.
- Have your pearls restrung once a year if you wear them often.
- Clean your pearls occasionally with mild soap and lukewarm
water. This will remove any traces of hair spray, cosmetics
or perfume.
- Don’t expose pearls to hair sprays, cosmetics or perfumes,
or clean them
with chemicals or abrasives.
- Don’t clean pearls in an ultrasonic.
- Don’t soak your pearls as this may discolor them near
the drill hole.
- Don’t ever use a steam cleaner.

 Don’t
wear pearls with rough fabrics like Shetland wool.
- Don’t use dishwash detergents , bleaches, powdered
cleansers, baking soda, or ammonia based cleaners.
- Don't store pearls in safety deposit boxes, where the dry
air can damage the pearls.
- When taking off a pearl ring, grasp the shank, or metal part,
rather than the pearl to avoid loosening the pearl.
- Wipe pearls after wearing with a soft, clean cloth to remove
any cosmetics and body oils which may be on the pearls
